Tasty south indian food

We visited this hotel while we were in Tnagar for some work. After finishing our work, we chose this hotel for our lunch, as the hotel was looking nice.

After we settled , one waiter came to our table for order within 10 miutes. We ordered our food and amazingly within 10 minutes he served us all that what we had ordered. As the place is very crowded they keep the items ready most of the time which is ordered frequently.

The quality was okay and the price was reasonable...

Lives upto the expectation
Smile 2013-06-05
Erode/Coimbatore Kuppanna as it is called, truly lives up to the expectation - real Kongu style food for the first time in Chennai.Boneless sukka, kudal kari are must try. Most non veg restaurants do not concentrate on the chicken - they end up buying the overgrown - old bird meat which spoils the dish but this chick meat tastes as real good. Dosa is excellent - crispy and very tasty particularly with a hot non veg gravy. Two things on which they should concentrate is the over spiciness and the maintenance of the ambience of the dining.

Best in Tnagar
Smile 2013-06-05
Junior Kupanna one of the best hotels i am not saying it from my mouth , i mean it from my heart since some items are really extra ordinary here which makes it really good. I must really say about there famous crab masala which is too good. Also the prawn 65 which is mouth watering. We have visited here many times just for starter nothing other than that .Kupanna might not be a hotel of class but really the taste does all...It was a day where i was not well but since my friends forced we were in purchase of tnagar actually we first planned to go to saravanna bhavan but i had more cold so i said non veg might be good for me this is how the first time we visited this hotel. We did not plan to go here but now we are always planning since taste tells you all.

Junior in name , Mature in Service !!!
Smile 2013-06-02
Call it the HSB of non-vegetarian restaurants . With the old horses not being consistent with their food , but increasing their prices , Junior Kuppanna is the go to place to enjoy a south indian meal. Ambiance is not much , but with the range of spicy food they offer , in more than compensates for anything. They have the distinction of having one of the best kitchens in Chennai . Don't believe me , just ask for a walk through !!! Price wise , it feels a bit high , for the quantity , but quality is the best and never seizes to amaze me . Yet to try their famous meals though , tried almost everything else !!!

Biryani @ Junior Kupanna
Smile 2013-05-01
I have heard a lot about this place, which were has its roots in Erode, so one fine afternoon I decided to check out this place. I wanted to play safe and ordered for Chicken Biryani and pepper chicken masala, while my friend ordered for prawn masala and biryani, both were absolutely perfect and we were scolding ourselves for not ordering any of their signature items and we want to head in to this outlet again to try out their menu in detail and enjoy the taste of South India.

Less quantity
Just OK 2012-07-02
The pricing in this place is really expensive when you equate it to the portions they serve - they probably do make up for it in taste, but only to an extent. The menu is very limited and there is absolutely nothing for vegetarians in it, so if you are going as a group with vegetarians among them, this is definitely not recommended. They have separate rooms with four four-seater tables which are groups-friendly.

Good SIndian Kongu food
Smile 2012-06-11
The biryani served is with Seeraga samba rice which is traditionally used in TN for Biryani. The taste is also authentic taste from the interiors of TN.

Menu is very limited, which I think helps keep the ingredients high quality.

Had egg veechu barotta, Mutton Biryani, Egg Kalakki (a half boiled omlette), Fish fry, and Mutton Kudal (Boti) fry. The taste of all this was very good, a taste very similar to what I get in Madurai or down south.

Qty of each of it was very less, but this little Qty made me taste more number of dishes.

For this quantity the pricing is expensive.

Overall a good place.

Sick menu & horrible food
Cries 2012-06-02
I went to Hotel Junior Kuppanna after reading so many glorious reviews about it, especially after surfing a decent review about it in The Hindu Metro Plus. So I thought of visiting it and went to the hotel. I have to confess that the location, parking, cleanliness did not disappoint me.
But as soon as the menu card was handed over to me, I was left high & dry. There were lots of spelling mistakes in the English Menu Card(since they have Tamil menu card also). Contrary to all their boasting, there is nothing new to offer in their menu.
Finally I decided to settle down to the Chicken Biryani. The sparkling server with his beautiful ipod touch took my order and sincerely asked whether I would like to have half plate or full plate. I ordered full plate.
After a brief wait, the chicken biryani arrived in a small plate which I thought is a side plate. But contrary to my opinion it was full plate.
It is not my intention to criticize or discourage the new entrants into the city. But in the name of tradition and experience, these days several hotels are coming with money motive and this Junior Kuppanna appears to be no exception.
The chicken biryani is very stale and the rice used for it appeared like a PDS rice. The gravy given with the biryani is so sick. One more important thing I would like to mention here is that in the name of tradition and old formulas, these people are resorting to some masala ingredients which are very pungent, viz., grinding peppers with green chilli etc.
It was so bad that immediately i got a bout of nausea and has to take one lime soda to appease that taste.
They charged Rs.140/- for this biryani for which there is no justification or reason. Comparatively, Buhari, Ente Keralam, Simran Apakadai offfers good quantity and stuff.
This Junior Kuppanna has to really think about their menu, prices and recipes, if they really want to have a mettle in Chennai's fast growing hotel industry.
